Looking at the image, how many squares do you see? Is that an even or odd number? How do you know?

There is so much we can do with these prompts! Check out fractiontalks.com for more of them, knowing that you don't need to bring up fractions; the counting and grouping is important for children to understand.

This lesson addresses the following standard:

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.OA.C.3

Determine whether a group of objects (up to 20) has an odd or even number of members, e.g., by pairing objects or counting them by 2s; write an equation to express an even number as a sum of two equal addends.
